Job Summary
The Senior Photo Tech works within client’s Technical Production Services group and is responsible for bringing clear and logical order to photographic content on and off set; which is key to building and preserving a vast and ever expanding collection of valuable digital assets, utilizing proven efficient workflows, all while following company security guidelines.

The Senior Photo Tech is responsible for going out on photo shoots working as the photo digitech, and assisting the photographer to ensure the images are captured to meet the specific stylized needs of the shoot, including shoots that are shot on an macOS/iOS device.The tech is responsible for managing all files in a prescribed standardized order, while assuring that all assets are consistently being redundantly saved on multiple encrypted hard drives. It is paramount that unbroken attention is given to the safe keeping and delivery of assets captured during the production.

This role will require working alongside the photo team, creatives, retouchers, producers, and other key stakeholders; where impeccable customer service is required under incredibly high levels of stress. Nothing on a shoot is constant so this role must be able to pivot gracefully with the myriad of ever changing needs.

This position requires an understanding of the teams weekly & monthly schedule as to remain flexible to finding and/or processing urgent items in order to prioritize certain projects.

The Senior Photo Tech will be responsible for interfacing and communicating directly and independently with stakeholders throughout Marcom.

 

Key Qualifications

As our in-house Senior Photo Tech you will need to be highly organized, self starting, have great time management, and extraordinary communication skills. You will need to thrive working in a collaborative and creative team environment, while also being able to work alone when the need arrises. The ideal candidate must have a passionate interest in photography and photographic systems, as well as being able to thrive in a faced paced photo production environment.

 

  • Have Excellent computer skills, and specific expertise with MacOS.
  • Strive on ensuring a high level of consistent quality.
  • Must be able to train quickly, follow procedures to the letter and exhibit the task management skills necessary to meet or exceed productivity requirements.
  • Follow through with commitments on tight deadlines, which fosters mutual trust with fellow team members and internal customers.
  • Have good judgment and can follow security practices to protect our unreleased images from exposure.
  • Occasionally required to spend long periods of time at a computer screen.
  • Must be able to work in extreme and varied environments. (ie. Hiking in a jungle, on a boat at sea, on a sub-arctic glacier, etc)
  • Will be required to travel domestically, and occasionally internationally, for shoots.
  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week from the main office.
  • Occasional overtime hours may be required depending on project, with little or zero notice.
  • Ability to work different shifts to support production shoots (swing and/or graveyard on occasion).
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds, to load and unload equipment needed for production.

 

 

 

Description
As a member of the Photo Tech team, you need to be the kind of person described above: thorough, able to handle shifting demands, reliable, dependable, calm under pressure, a clear communicator, and an excellent team player.

  • Expertise in Capture One and MacOS are required.
  • Proficiency in Photo Mechanic, ChronoSync, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Better Rename, Terminal, TidyUp, and iOS is required.
  • Must have a working understanding of camera lenses, lens optics, lighting, the exposure triangle (and ISO) and DSLR sensors.
  • Understand how MacOS & iOS Devices are used as a photographic tool, while being able to address any challenges and differences when compared to a traditional DSLR.
  • Must understand and be able to apply the scientific method to all troubleshooting situations.
  • A strong understanding of different image file formats, as well as camera raw file formats.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of digital photography systems, with proficient understanding of camera systems from all major manufacturers; DSLR and medium format systems.
  • Maintain industry knowledge on current industry solutions available, asset management and photography trends.
  • Assist team members with receiving images, and helping to sort, update, or modify images based on deliverable needs.
  • Consistently provide concise organization of assets in a curation based on criteria provided by creatives and producers.
  • Set up in-house shoots with proper file naming structures and meta data standards.
  • Curate photo assets to ensure images can be located easily within project
  • Work collaboratively with Creatives, Photographers, and Producers to make final image selections for site ready to be passed to the post production team or to the Archive team.
  • On occasion the Photo Tech will accompany photo teams on location and assist shoots for nightly reviews and uploads.
  • Drive the progress, growth and maturity of our asset management practices.
  • Develop role-specific user training programs for cameras, workflows, and all in-house asset management systems.
  • Helps maintain the asset cataloging of the photo file system.
  • Identify unique ways to organize and manage the entire digital asset life cycle.
  • Design, implement and maintain naming standards and metadata schemas that reflect the true and ever changing needs of the business.
  • Create, maintain, and streamline workflows for the use of assets in all relevant systems.
  • Develop and improve document protocol for team processes and procedures.
  • Serve as the lead for user support in asset/content creation, trafficking and asset requests.
  • Occasional multiple overnight stays for destination shoots and airline travel.
  • Continuously learn and strive to be an expert in everything photos.

 

 


Education & Experience

 

Bachelors Degree in Library Science, Computer Science, Photography, or equivalent preferred.

 

Must have developed own photographic practice.

 

Minimum of 10 years working as a digital asset manager, as a photographers assistant, or in a digital tech role.

 

Minimum of 10 years on photographic set experience.

 

Minimum of 15 years of photography experience.

 

MacOS & iOS Genius experience a plus.
