Audio Description Describer/Director

The Audio Description (AD) Describer/Director works within client's Marketing + Communications Video Accessibility group. The Describer/Director works within a small team of describer/directors, audio engineers, and voice talent to create descriptive audio tracks to accompany their English-language marketing video content.

Primarily, the team makes customer-facing content for their website accessible; this includes short product videos, how-tos, shot-on-device demo content, and more. Long-form content such as product launches and other keynote addresses are also a core responsibility of the audio description team. Additionally, the team supports select internal-facing content like employee communications meetings and training videos. The Describer/Director should be flexible and able to adapt to the various styles, workflows, and schedules different types of content require.

This role works closely with other post-production teams (especially Closed Captioning and Compression) as well as Video Producers, Video Delivery Managers, and assorted Accessibility stakeholders. An ideal candidate will be familiar with both audio description/video accessibility issues as well as the video production pipeline, although training will be provided to candidates without.

Key Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of audio description and video accessibility concerns
  • Demonstrated mastery of the English language
  • Audio description and/or creative writing experience
  • Extreme attention to detail in both script writing and editing
  • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate varied production demands
  • Proven experience working with a nimble and dynamic team

Additional Skills

  • Experience with film, video, and/or commercial projects preferred
  • Familiarity with audio editing software and workflows preferred
  • Voiceover experience preferred

Description

  • Work with team of vendors and internal employees to provide audio description services
  • Create high-quality AD scripts following internal style guides
  • Act as subject-matter expert on audio description writing
  • Update/create style guides and documentation resources as needed
  • Participate in training of new audio description writers or VO talent as appropriate

Education

  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years of writing and/or audio description experience
